Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Great local mom and pop drive-in that offers more than you would expect including great fired chicken and some unbelievably good Italian dishes. You have to taste it to believe it but I would put their red sauce (gravy) right up there with the best. For me that means simple and fresh slow roasted sauce that complements a plate of spaghetti or meatball sandwich but doesn't overpower. I would recommend to anyone, after all if you have horrible taste and end up not liking the food you can always skip right to dessert and get a great shake or malt to fill you up.

I recently read in article in Vita.mn that featured Dairi-ette -- sort of a local version of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." The author's description of the meatball sandwich and accompanying photo of the restaurant's sweet-o vintage sign were enough to convince me that this was one place the Mr. and I just had to travel over the river to try. It did not disappoint! We ordered a meatball sandwich with fries and coleslaw, a jumbo pizza burger with fries and coleslaw, a cherry Coke, and a vanilla Coke (made the old-fashioned way with syrup, so good) for $20. Service was fast and everything was delicious. The food was great, but the novelty of the 50s-style drive-in made Dari-ette an *excellent* choice for a casual Sunday lunch. And, it was worth the drive! We're fans and will be back.

YUM YUM YUM! Their banana malt is AMAZING. The sausage sandwich was great, and the pizza burger was delicious, too. The onion rings were also good. Didn't have one thing here that we didn't love, including the service!

Love the "small town" places like this. The Italian meatball sandwich is unexpectedly delicious and all the ice cream treats can never go wrong. Added bonus: usually some nice rods in the parking lot enhancing the atmosphere. Say hi if you see a bull terrier hanging out there.
(5)Duane T.
Being from the East Side, I have been eating here for 43 years. I can still remember sitting in my red" 65 Mustang and devouring an Italiano in the parking lot. Back in the day my sister in-law worked there and said it was a great atmosphere. The Italiano and Fried Chicken are the best. Where else can one get a cherry 7up or Coke? It is obvious that the family atmosphere and great food brings back customers from all generations. On nice nights you might catch some 60"s & 70's cars in the lot to give it the "Drive In" scene.

Classic drive-in with an Italian-American twist. They were running a special the day we stopped in, so I scored a free small root beer float with my pizza burger! The float was really more like a root beer shake since the soft serve melted right into the soda, which turned out to be a major plus since I could enjoy it by straw alone. Pizza burger - mozz on the bottom, marinara on the top, beef patty in the middle - good all around. Sauce definitely tasted homemade and slow cooked. Nice thick slices of onion rings to round out the meal. We ate in the car for the full drive-in experience, but they had some tables set up on the patio as well. Tasty food, nostalgic atmosphere, low prices. Sounds good to me!

Not disappointing. We stopped at the Dari-Ette last week with some friends. We did not want to eat in the car, so we found a spot in a booth inside. It was cozy, but worked well. After reading some of the other reviews, I could not, not order the meatball sandwich. The sandwich was served on two slices of bread with the meatballs cut in half. The red sauce was good; plenty of flavor complimented the meatballs. The bread was Italian white bread that was pretty fresh and squishy. I only ordered the meatball sandwich with a soda. That was plenty to fill me up. One of our friends ordered it in the basket with fries but did not finish the fries. He said they were good, he was just full. I think the two of us will stop by again and eat in the car.

Hey its a real drive-in that serves great filling food, what more do you need? A coworker has been raving about this place for awhile now and he owed me lunch, so he decided it was time I give it a try. He was right, I was very happy with my sandwich, fries, and slaw. Next time I will have to try the meatball sandwich because it looked great. It was a little slow getting the food out to us, but it wasn't bad. If you don't want to eat Italian food while sitting in your car, red sauce everywhere, they do have a few indoor spots as well as a few tables outside.
(4)Dan S.
This place is a throwback to the '50s. You park your car outside and order through the speakers. The waitress brings your food out to the car. It's like the nearby Sonic, but they serve hearty homemade Italian food and burgers. They make a decent meatball and the sauce ain't bad either.
(4)Jim J.
Since Porkys left Saint Paul, I frequent Dariette. I'm more than pleasantly surprised. Good food, good service and one of the only car places to gather collector cars in a 50's hangout. Our future memories that include hotrods will be here at Dariette. I know I'm becoming a regular. If you see a roadster pickup backed in to a spot, stop and say hi. I'd like to get a large regular group of hotrodders showing up to share the experience. COOTER

Really tasty red sauce, well flavored and just the right thickness. My boyfriend likes the meatball sandwich, which really is made by the sauce according to him. I get the spaghetti with red sauce and mushrooms which is two (yummy) meals worth of food for me. It's served in one of those Styrofoam to go containers which means it's easy to bring the leftovers along. This place isn't fancy, but good food and good prices. The outdoor tables are also quite nice when the weather is good. I'll be going back again, and probably buying red sauce from here in the future.

Dariette is officially open now. Last year when I was sitting in the car in 86 degree weather, eating a meatball sandwich, I knew I had a serious problem. A great sauce by the quart for those who got lazy like me. My husband loved the fried shrimp. Seasonal, so a weekly trip wouldn't be unreasonable.
(5)Brent T.
Great shakes and Amazing fried chicken!
(5)Ashley F.
I was a car-hop for awhile here in high school, so eating here takes me back to my personal good ol' days. Days when life was simple, the the Vanilla coke was all it took for me to have a good day. I still have never tried the fried chicken, I like to stick to the Meatball Dinner Dip. Those meatballs man, they are where it is at. Especially when combined with the delicious Italian bread and red sauce...
(3)Travis P.
Amazing sausage sandwich. If you order the spaghetti, make sure to request more than one meatball, or only one is what you'll receive, and I promise you'll want at least two. The meatballs feel firm when you cut through them, and you'll almost expect them to be dry, but fear not, they are as tender as any meatball this Italian has ever had. Bread so soft it'll melt in your mouth. Fantastic food all around, don't be put off by the drive-thru aspect
(4)Erik R.
Just short of tennis ball sized, the meatball sandwhich is not to be missed.
(5)E R.
Great italian sauce!
(5)April G.
Our family loves this place. It reminds me of going to the drive-in restaurants as a kid. If you go you have to try the meatballs, they are monster and delish. Their fries are really good too, esp if you go on a weekday for lunch. I also love their ice cream, its real soft-serve, not that dairy queen crap.
(5)Brenda B.
When I lived on the east side, this was one of our favorite summer places. You can get great sauce to go, so you can make a fantastic chicken cacciatore that your guests will think is homemade (just add the chicken, peppers, zucchini, eggplant, whatever). They serve a politically incorrect but delish Hot Dago sandwich so that is my favorite here. All kinds of homemade Italian yumishness plus typical drive in stuff. This nice cool change in weather has got me thinking about drive ins...
(5)Mike G.
Very tough to categorize this place since it serves both American (burgers, fries, etc.) as a traditional drive-in does, but it also has some amazing Italian dishes as well. I saw Dari-ette shocased on the Food Network and tried it today. Wow! I had a meatball sandwich that was great. Avoid the meatballs if you have a white shirt on because the sauce is plentiful. Decent price and the food is great. If you don't want to leave your car, just have the food brought to you old style.
(5)Orion B.
Everything I had was good and the service was very friendly but the 5 stars are for the red sauce! I ordered a side of it to dip my fries in it and ended up eating the rest of it with a fork! I heard about it on here and had to try it - now I want to go back and buy some to freeze for the winter. It's so simple and yet so soul warmingly delish! Looking forward to going back next Spring and trying new items. (They close for the season on Oct. 30, 2010)
(5)J S.
This place has the best spaghetti ever. We live in the neighborhood and order spaghetti to pick up often. I am so sad that they are closed over the winter months. We have ordered many other things from the menu sandwiches etc and they are all excellent. They say its a good sign when the bathroom is clean in a restaurant. I had to take my daughter to the restroom here once and I must say it was spotless. Try it you will enjoy anything you order. Fun for the kids to drive a good old drive in too!
(5)Peter R.
I just had the meatball sandwich - it was good, I should have gotten fries with it too - I can eat a lot and was soon hungry. The price was decent. The place had good 1950s character, similar experience to an A&W that has a drive-in - but more authentic in an East St. Paul way.
(3)Christine W.
Very disappointing-very spendy and we ate outside, asked for a container for leftover fries and they wouldnt give us one....Will not go back!!
(1)Jennifer K.
Love the Dari-ette-I used to work at the school (Parkway) before it closed, and we would walk the students down at the end of each year for ice cream. Cute, cool, lots of fun to see the old cars. I never thought the food was that great-I would stick to the soft-serve.
(4)Daniel L.
We enjoyed a short motorcycle ride in the cool evening weather (any excuse for a ride you know). We had the living social deal so that made it even more worth the trip. I had the meatball sandwich with the basket option, made with what looked like fresh homemade bread, giant oversized meatballs and a pretty tasty sauce. Mary Jo tried it too but she thought the sauce was a bit peppery. The best meatball I've had in a while. I found the cole slaw a bit bland and the spaghetti was cooked a perfect al dente. Mary Jo ordered the broasted chicken and we both loved the seasoning with a hint of nutmeg, the crispy coating was golden brown and the meat was tender and juicy. Mary jo thought the chicken was slightly underdone, I thought it was just right. I finished with a hot fudge and chocolate shake, ice cream and chocolate; how can you go wrong. A special note about the service. Our server was fantastic. He took time to explain the menu to us and just about the best counter server we've ever encountered.
(4)Sam M.
I usually buy in to the nostalgia thing. We went on a lazy Sunday afternoon. There were a few cars there. We pressed the magic button and ordered a Meatball Sandwich, BLT, O-rings and Sodas. The meatball sandwich was average. None of the ingredients (bread sauce, cheese, or bun) stood out as anything special. The flavor and texture of the meatball seemed to be of the prepackaged variety. The sauce was very bland. The BLT was a BLT. Again - no stand outs. O-rings - at least they weren't the chopped and formed type. The value of the food? Not so much - the meatball sandwich was $7 with no sides. I like the fact that this place has been here awhile, and I like the idea of the old car hop style service. I gave it one star just for that.
(3)Annie P.
Meatball sandwich back in the day was the reason we'd frequent this place. I think it's changed quite a bit, last nights meal was a disappointment. Bland French bread, meatballs were rubbery and the sauce was bland.
(3)Keith P.
I'm losing faith in Guy Fieri. Yes, this place has been a St Paul staple for many years and will probably continue to be for generations to come. And yes, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives visited here as Guy Fieri gushed over the food. But I cannot in good consciousness pretend that this was anywhere near good food. I had the meatball sandwich and the meatball was mushy, completely bland and tasteless, and flat out gross. The sauce was terrible, rather boring and lacked any bite or flavor really. The pasta my wife had was completely overcooked. She also had the sausage and said it was not very good. I was so excited to try this place again. I hadn't been here since I was a kid. But it was so disappointing. Yes, it's a cool place to visit due to the Drive-In novelty, and I'm sure I'll bring my kids here someday for an ice cream treat. But it will only be after I've eaten my dinner elsewhere.

MEATBALL SANDWICH and VANILLA COKE. Best ever, great nostalgic feel and wonderful service with a smile. Coming back again for sure!

Finally went to this spot we had heard so much about over the years, and, I have to say, it was a big fat 'meh'. The group ordered the following and these were the responses: Corndog: Boring Cheeseburger: Average Fries: Good. Very crunchy, which is a plus. Onion Rings: Great standard onion rings. What you expect (and hope for) when ordering onion rings. Pizza Burger: Disappointing. I do not understand what all the hub-bub is about this place's red sauce. maybe there wasn't enough on it? It was good, but I wouldn't buy it to bring home. Cherry Coke: LOVE. Just like the old style ones. The place itself is cute and old school-y, but it left me hoping that the food matched the fun of the atmosphere. I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it more than once. Maybe I'll try the meatball sandwich next time (which they're famous for), it just seemed so messy to eat in the car.
(2)Gregory L.
Gregory Lasica thinks this is a fun place to go. Great ambience in a residential neighborhood. Delicious food. I love taking kids because we just eat In the car.
(5)Mark L.
How many old time drive in diners are left. I found one that infuses traditional American food with Italian and oh so much fun. The neighborhood is not very savory but overall, you and the family should be ok. Whether you want a pepper steak, meatballs, a cobb salad or a great malt, this is the place to be. You can even get a cone or a slushie. Are you feeling the love and yumminess now?
(4)Meg L.
The fries are great, get the fresh banana malt it's the bees knees! Everything is great there
(5)Tedd R.
The Dari-Ette would get three stars if only for the food. Its standard drive-in fare though you can get pasta! It's the experience we love. There aren't many drive ins with car hops any more. We go with the rag top down for the ultimate ambiance. The only way they could improve the car hop experience would be to put them on roller skates!
(4)T G.
I saw this restaurant featured in the triple d show and had to try it out! I pulled in and the friendly car hop took my order....And wham!!!! Out came quality Italian food! The spaghetti sauce on the Italiano sandwich was awesome! The pasta fagiolo was ok but lacked a kick. Overall, thumbs up!
(4)Dan B.
The Dari-ette is located on Minnehaha and has been a staple on St. Paul's Eastside for decades. It's an old school drive- in with car hops and everything, but it also has a walk-up window and dining area- plus a few tables outside if you want to enjoy the weather. The Dari-ette is open seasonally, from about April to October or so. You can keep tabs on them by liking their Facebook page. Sometimes, they post daily deals there, too. Being a drive- in, it offers all the classic drive- in food you would expect. Burgers, fries, onion rings, corn dogs, everything your father ate when he pulled up in his Chevy back in the 50's. To wash down these eats I would suggest adding a malt, float, or a flavored Coke. Their Vanilla Coke is awesome! Sometimes I convince Sara we should go to the Dari-ette just so I can have one. Once you've gorged yourself on the great drive- in food, there are plenty of desserts available. Like any good drive- in the Dari-ette offers soft-serve ice cream cones, sundaes, and the classic banana split. The food, drinks, and dessert make the Dari-ette a great drive -in, but there are two things that set the Dari-ette apart from the competition. The first is their fried chicken. The Dari-ette's "famous crisp chicken" is really tasty. You can get it as a dinner to eat in your car, or order buckets and buckets to take home to the family. I saw a guy leave with at least 10 pounds of chicken last summer! Quick way to feed the family, and support a local business instead of a chain. The second is the Italian food on their menu. The Dari-ette is known for their tasty red sauce. Like any Italian restaurant, the food is only going to be as good as the sauce, and the Dari-ette is pretty good. I would not go so far as saying that it's the best out there, but it's solid. You can get this sauce on spaghetti, rigatoni, with meatballs, and on their Italian sandwiches. Sara's favorite sandwich at the Dari-ette is the Italiano (Italian sausage patty, melted mozzarella, lots of sauce, between two slices of Italian bread). It's wicked tasty! They also sell the sauce by the pint, liter, and gallon so you can take it home and make your own creation. The Dari-ette is a cool classic drive in with a few twists that make it great! You can't go wrong with the Burger-ette and a milk shake, but if that's not tripping you trigger you can get some yummy chicken or zesty Italian instead.

Reading the other reviews and knowing that they are known for their spaghetti my boyfriend and I choose to eat something else, The location and easy to find with the giant sign that is planted in front of the small building with about 6-8 inside, we didn't know where to park so we just decided to park at one of the drive in signs and parked to walk in. You can order inside with the menu planted right above where you order or outside during the summer times. We got the Meatball sandwich, with a cheeseburger and fries and a coke. The food didn't take to long before getting called out and you pick up your food where you first went to order it. It seemed like they had many regulars that came in while we were there. The food was made fresh, but nothing special the red sauce which I am assuming is the same for their spaghetti was good though. The fries were ok nothing special it tasted like the frozen kind you get at the groceries and can deep fry yourself. I also noticed that they have different specials depending on the day as well. Overall the food that we ordered was nothing out of the blue or ordinary but if I was in the area and hungry I would give it another try because of the friendly, fast and inexpensive food.
(3)Lisa M.
Red sauce is good! We recently went back to the Dariette so I could try something else, plus I had a Living Social Deal. This time everyone else got basically the same meal, with the exception of adding a malt and I got the rigatoni with a meatball. Well, this trip was much more enjoyable. I would definitely order anything with red sauce again. The bread that came with it was warm, buttery, garlicky and certainly not good for me. There was enough food for 2 meals, but I ate most and wasn't able to take rest with me. I learned my lesson - stick with the red sauce.
(3)Andre C.
It's too bad that there aren't many drive-ins, but this one takes the cake. I was told to order the fried chicken, but I went with the chicken strips instead. I didn't think there was anything special about them. I do like that they provided honey to dip it in. The fountain soda pop was "50s style" and I could taste the difference. I like how the kid's meal came in a cardboard truck. If my son could Yelp, however, he'd give the hot dog a 1 star. As adults, we appreciate the authentic hard casing, but he's used to the cheap stuff that you can bite. He took one bite and decided to consume all his fries instead.

Probably driven past this place 1000 times but not enough interest to try the food. As far as the car hop aspect goes...been there...lived that.....worked Porky's lot with my 1961 beehive hairdo (complete with little, screw into the hair, fake bees -ha!) flopping over my face like a big, soggy crepe whenever it would rain. Anyway.....finally decided to try this place yesterday and heres what I think. Ate inside. Wanted to see the prep area and cleanliness of dine in area. Small area..only 3-4 little booths but cozy. My table needed cleaning but a young man came out as soon as I mentioned that it could use a wipe down. Ordered the bacon cheeseburger platter with side of spaghet and coleslaw. Also, ordered the "tastes just like the 50's" cherry coke, just for the fun of it. Counted 5 people (that I could see) in the small, kitchen/ prep area so service was pretty fast. Also, the place was almost empty so that didn't hurt the speedy service either. First thing I noticed, when my order arrived, was that there were absolutely no condiments on the tables. Had to ask for ketchup and was given two little packets. Not enough for me. Not a salt or pepper shaker to be found. It doesn't seem excessive to me to put a Dollar Tree S&P shaker on each table. Maybe even pick up some cheap-o ketchup and mustard while you're there. Burger was up to temp and had a decent amount of bacon on it but beef patty was sooooo dry that I had to ask for more little ketchup packets just to get the bites down my throat. This is where the cherry coke comes in. Was also trying to wash down this dry, dry, tasteless meat with the CC and NO, I could not taste the diff between that CC or one from 60+ yrs ago. Well.....nice try. Who in their 60's or 70's is going to remember what a CC tasted like in 1950? Somebody with a hell of a lot more remaining memory cells than me, thats for sure! Now, on to the spaghetti sauce. EXCELLENT! What a surprise! A very, very good blend of cling to the spoon red sauce with just enough garlic, herb & spice to satisfy my 1st generation Italian palate And the best thing about this sauce? Not cloyingly sweet like some mom-pop Italian places. I will definitely return to this place for the red sauce to take out. Its about $5 a pint incl. tx., but worth it. Gave this place 3 stars because the burger was not good. Had I only ordered the Italian sauce and pasta, I would have given it 4.

Dari-ette Drive-In is a Saint Paul legend. This seasonal drive-in has been delighting residents of the Dayton's Bluff area of east St. Paul for four generations and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. The menu is monolithic and features an eclectic and unique mash up of Italian and fast food, both favorites of the locals judging by the other restaurants available in the area. This gigantic-jack-of-all-trades menu comes with a compromise as some of the offerings are much better than others. For instance: the French Fries are god awful bland potato sticks with minimal salt sprinkled on them whereas the Italian Sandwich was rather good, boasting subtle hints of basil in the marinara and a bold beef patty with think Italian style bread. The Meatballs are far and away their most proud offering and I found them to be a decent rendition of the genre's stalwart but could have used a real boost in the spice department as most of the flavor seemed to come from the aforementioned marinara and not the meat itself. Their ice cream and soft serve offerings are far and away the best bet and are enjoyed properly while sitting inside your rental car watching the passer by's on Minnehaha Avenue. I would imagine the majority of Dari-ette Drive-In's business is from either the novelty of an old school drive-in experience or just plain old nostalgia over the years as the food is quite pedestrian at best. I would not go out of the way to return to Dari-ette but if my travels bring me back to the east side of Saint Paul, I may just pull in for another Italian sandwich and ice cream cone.

NOT impressed. My mom, stepdad, and I went and it cost us $32 and none of us where that happy with our food. I got rigatoni ($7), and it was an additional $1.79 to add mozzarella, mushrooms, or whatever other meats... So I just ordered as is.. BAD IDEA... It was so BLAND. I barley ate any of it.. Luckily I got a small side order of fries, which where okay.. My parents got burgers that they said where alright.. My mom's came with a side of coleslaw (now she loves coleslaw but), she literally spit it out!! The girl that took our order was really slow, and forgot our sodas. We also overheard her messing up at least two other orders while we where in there.. Overall we where very disappointed, and would not recommend it for the food. We can't speak to the ice cream though..
(1)Daniel L.
All my family and I have eaten at this place has been ice cream and it's the best! The saddest thing is that my high school is just blocks from the joint! There were strange rumors about the place, don't know if any were true but that kept me from stopping there too often and once I was off to college trips became even rarer. Our last jaunt over to the ol' east side was accentuated with a stop here and the ice cream as always was top notch as was the service.
(5)Marc X.
Not much to say but when my spaghetti meatball at home from a bottle of Ragu tastes better, we have a problem. Will most likely not go back.
(1)Mike O.
My girlfriend and I share the same opinion. The meatballs and sauce are both ok, but kinda Chef Boyardeeish. They get a little more flavor after they cool off for some reason. The French fries were very good. Kinda like McDonalds with a nice light crispy coating on them. Most of the prices are pretty reasonable. Would of been hard to eat in the car though.
(3)Bobby R.
Been eating here since I was Born. Im in from out of town and I had to come back to my old favorite place. As you can imagine lots of things change in the years but everything it's always so consistently good that you keep coming back even with the subtle changes overtime products change etc. Well completely disappointed the French fries suck. Over the years I've had several different brands but the ones are using now are absolutely the worst very cheap. Coastline isn't as good either close to what it was but a little more vinegar in it then used to be doesn't have that same addicting flavor actually has a terrible aftertaste. Burger taste the exact same although they have changed the buns. I'll be back one more time before I head out of town to see if they're absolutely fabulous spaghetti delicious meatballs and great fried chicken has remained the same if so I'll definitely give them 5 stars but for today it's just an average 3 stars still love the place though
(3)Patrick B.
In a word Yatzee! Impossible to go wrong eating here. Kids meal selection was great and meatball sandwich is super!
(5)Rosie S.
Yuk on the way overcooked spaghetti sauce and the flavorless dry bread. Had a butterscotch dip cone for dessert and the butterscotch has hardly a taste, kinda like an off brand graham cracker.

Today was my free day with the diet I am on. I decided to cure my coney island cravings. I went here and chose to eat indoors. They have very limited seating indoors. I looked over the menu, even though I knew what I was going to get. Coney's with cheese and onions are $4.90 each. A bit expensive to me. I ordered 2 with a medium beverage. Total was $12.32. Expensive lunch for me. Ordering was quick and prepared promptly. I suppose it helps that there was only 1 other party inside and 1 party in the lot. I got my 2 coney's in styrofoam hot dog containers. Opened one up and saw that there was sliced american cheese cut in half. Not good. Took a bite and much fell off into the container. Hot dog was a good beef dog. Coney sauce was very good. Not sure if it is house made or food service product. But it was decent. The bun was a nice fresh Sara Lee bun. I know it was Sara Lee because I saw the truck making a delivery!!! The cheese, bummer. Sliced American cut in half and appeared to have melted by putting the dog and toppings in a microwave. Not a good idea. They were decent coney's, but I will not drive 5 miles again for them. If I go here again, it will be for spaghetti n meat balls.
(3)Brett J.
Best broiled Chicken, I love this place, the pizza burger is a close second for me. Not a lot of seating inside. But if you do the car hop thing, the kids will love it. A Minnehaha classic!
(5)Pamela B.
I wanted so badly to love this place but it is just okay. Everything is in the experience! Truly amazing to see one of these old places still operating but at what cost? Their red sauce does not taste fresh made by a long shot. The pasta itself is passible but it's pasta. The bread they served with my pasta was not even edible. The staff seems friendly enough and the place is mostly clean. With some adjustments to their food, I think they would have been a whole lot busier on such a wonderful night. We may come back and we may not but if we do, it will be for the experience of ordering from and eating in our '50.

Stopped by for a bite and the Meatball Sandwich was TASTY! The Mrs got the Spaghetti and it was excellent as well! Took home the extra Cheese Bread and Onion Rings cause we were just plain stuffed.

I cannot imagine the wonders of heaven, but I pray it has a Dari-Ette. Our first Dari-Ette meal of the season is always a joy! Never disappointed.

Off the beaten path, Dari-ette was a great place to meet up with an old high school chum over a meatball sandwich and fried chicken. Soaked in meatball sauce, the sandwich became a messy experience, with each bite requiring a napkin or some good ol fashioned finger lickin'.

Came here for a quick snack after softball tournament. Wanted something refreshing. Our order consisted of a spaghetti, a banana malt and a blue raspberry slushy. The told us the slushy machine wasn't working. My girlfriend changed her order to a Oreo malt and they said they can only do an Oreo flurry. Really? You can't just add malt powder?? We took our business to Dairy Queen instead.

An East Side institution. My mom used to take my brother and I here when we were growing up. Sadly, I have not eaten here in years, but on Friday I was craving a meatball sandwich and remembered this place. Great food, quick service, and reasonable prices. What is not to like? Meatball sandwich was HUGE. Seriously. I actually considered not finishing it (But I did!) Fries were good as well, nothing too special but they were tasty. Banana choco milkshake was great! I need to stop eating so many calories...but it is hard...

I'd never heard of this place before. My husband had a deal to use, so we decided to go on one of our non-fasting days. He got the pizza burger, I got the sausage sandwich, and the boy had a cheeseburger. The pizza burger was a winner with the boys. I thought my son was going to try and eat the whole thing himself because he kept asking for bites. He also loved his cheeseburger. My Italian sausage sandwich was ok. I ate it open faced because it was just too much bread. I felt that the marinara was ok, as well. When I eat Italian sandwiches, I like to feel as though I've found something close to what I might get back home in New York. This sandwich did not do that for me. So, if you're seeking a middle of the road sausage sandwich, this one's probably alright for you. I do have to say that I was surprised that they had diet cherry coke. I'd already drunk a gallon of water that day, so I wanted something different. I don't typically drink soda at all, yet thought it was a good fit for what we were eating. One caveat about eating outside (we chose to eat inside): If you are allergic to bees, wasps or hornet, park and eat inside the restaurant. We'd pulled up to an ordering station that had bees buzzing about it. I didn't feel like capping off the evening with a visit to the hospital, so we parked elsewhere and walked back to the restaurant. Both the boys want to come back, as their burger jones was sated. The onion rings and fries were also ok. Since I don't typically food of this sort, it must be stellar when I do indulge. I've yet to find a burger joint that does that for me. Well, there is Golden's, but that's another review.
